WRAPPED on Bicultural!

As an Asian-American filmmaker with every sense of underrepresentation for my Filipino heritage, I could not miss out on HBO's Visionaries Competition for Asian-Americans. Once I found out about it via a friend's Facebook post, I set out to shoot a short film based on a television pilot I had written a couple months prior. It was quite a pressing task to complete pre-production, principal photography, AND post-production in two months but we did it!

Bicultural is a story that reflects the deepest corridors of my heart. No exaggeration. This is a very special one to me. No, it's not an auto-biography (for those who have and will ask). It's just a story. A story derived from true emotional ties. As any creator would say, it's an extension of who we are. I don't want to say too much about the plot but here are some BTS shots from the set!

It was a blast working with this team. We were hard pressed with time but we pulled through! I'm so proud of us. I cannot wait to share this with all of you.

ISAtv Digital Film Shootout - Vlogger/Personality WINNER!

I am so honored and blessed to finally share that I won ISAtv's 2016 Digital Film Shootout for Vlogger/Personality! The winners of each category were invited to the film screening, which was the last event in their 3-part APAHM celebration. It was such an inspiring night to see my fellow winners' work, the upcoming series "Single by 30" by Wong Fu Productions, and "Save my Seoul" by The Jubilee Project.

It was an amazing time to network with fellow Asian-American filmmakers and supporters. Not only did I feel so encouraged but incredibly proud to be a part of a community that continues to fight for our voices to be heard in Hollywood.

I believe it's a great time for us to band together and change the waves that try to drown our identity and heritage away. I'm so excited for the future of Hollywood because we, Asian-Americans, are coming for ya like a storm!

Thank you ISAtv for the recognition of my video "Worst Asian Stereotypes in the Media." Coming soon to my YouTube channel!

Xoxo,

Asians on Film Festival 2016!

What a wonderful week of supporting some amazing short films at the Asians on Film festival! We had a blast at the WORLD PREMIERE of our short film, Maple's Tree. It was truly a remarkable experience to see all of our hard work on the big screen. I sat in my seat, a nervous wreck, and was so touched by the response we received. I could hear people sniffling and softly crying at the end of our film. Many said they were moved by the story and that's all I could ever ask for. Thank you to all of our family and friends who came out to support. It means the world to us. Hopefully, we'll be able to screen the film in many other festivals!

I was so shocked at the exceptional short films selected. Some of my favorites were Touch, D.Asian, My Best Friend, Ben, and Mango Sticky Rice. It was both refreshing and exciting to see such talented Asian-Americans breaking the mold in the industry on-and-off-screen. This experience has me thrilled for the future of Asian-American cinema. Here's to the future!

Love,

R.N.Leyco
